Description - Join Materials Library for an experimental and experiential insight into the art and science of hair and its connection to the human body, culture and society. Come and enjoy and evening of specially created hands-on activities in the Medicine Man and Medicine Now galleries, as well as talks from hair specialists. Guests will have the opportunity to reacquaint themselves with the materiality of hair and to explore our obsession with it through a series of encounters including spinning, knitting, shaving, styling, waxing and microscopic analysis. Cut, shave, wax and wear hair with experts such as wig makers, barbers, hair stylists, chemists, theatrical make-up artists and canine coiffeurs. Come with your own exciting hairstyle, beard or moustache to show off… or simply try one out whilst you are here!

Description - An evening to provide an insight into the materiality of 'flesh', and its connection to the human body, culture and medicine. Our approach was be largely experiential, with our guests being given the opportunity to touch, feel, smell, cut, drill and even taste flesh. Experts in flesh, such as surgeons, body builders, butchers, artists and scientists gave talks and were available in galleriesÊ for a more informal interaction. Materials Library made a series of hands-on flesh exhibits for the evening, each one of which was juxtaposed with one of the objects exhibited in Medicine Man gallery and Medicine Now gallery. A Life Drawing class was also part of the evening, to allow our guests to reacquaint themselves with the human body.

Description - An exhibit of new materials was designed and installed by Martin Conreen for Future Palate, the third in the Colour and Chemistry series of exhibitions. The first, Colour and Perception, looked at how artists use colour to reveal how we see, and how we construct what we see. It included the work of Bridget Riley, the British 1960s Optical artist, and Spencer Finch, a rising New York-based artist who recreates the exact light of famous places. The second, Artists & Alchemists, explored the physical making of colour and how artists embraced colour in a range of media, from reproducing chemical experiments (one artist recreated the BZ reaction) to creating beautifull glass work. The third, Future Palette move saway from the traditional model of a group show, to produce an exhibition that makes a parity between the creative work of scientists and artists.
